The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is one of the most breathtaking buildings in the world. Every visitor who sees it for the first time is struck into silence by its scale and beauty.

About the Mosque
The largest mosque in the UAE — completed in 2007, named after the founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It can hold more than 40,000 worshippers and welcomes visitors of all faiths.

What to See
82 white marble domes of different sizes. More than 1,000 marble columns decorated with semi-precious stones. The world’s largest hand-knotted carpet — 47 tonnes, made by 1,200 artisans. Chandeliers decorated with Swarovski crystals. One of the world’s largest marble mosaic courtyards.

Visiting Hours
Saturday to Thursday: 9am to 10pm. Fridays: open from 4:30pm after prayers. Entry is completely free.

Dress Code
Modest clothing required for all visitors. Ladies must wear an abaya and headscarf — provided free at the entrance. Men need long trousers and a top with sleeves.

Photography
Welcome throughout the mosque. The courtyard reflection pools create some of the most beautiful photos in the UAE.

How to Get There from Dubai
The mosque is 140 kilometres from Dubai — about 90 minutes by car.
