Etihad Rail passenger services give visitors a new option for travelling between the Emirates. This guide explains the phased network opening and how to plan the connections between your station, hotel and sightseeing stops.
A new way to travel across the UAE
The first passenger route began operating between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah on 30 June 2026. The introductory journey takes approximately one hour and 45 minutes. Etihad Rail lists Dubai and Al Dhaid station openings for 30 September 2026, with further stations following in stages.

- 30 November 2026: Zayed City and Liwa are scheduled to open.
- 30 December 2026: Remaining Al Dhafra stations are scheduled to open.
- 30 March 2027: Sharjah station is scheduled to open.

What visitors should know before booking
A train ticket covers the rail journey. You may still need transport between the station, your hotel and your chosen attraction. Consider the complete journey when comparing options, especially if you are travelling with luggage, children or a group.
Book under the name on your identification and review the operator’s current baggage allowance, fare conditions and boarding requirements. Keep your ticket accessible on your phone and allow time to reach the station before departure. Do not assume that every station connects directly to your hotel or sightseeing destination.
Planning a rail and sightseeing itinerary
For a multi-emirate holiday, start with the places you want to visit and work backwards from their entry times. A mosque visit, museum booking or airport departure needs enough time for the journey from the station as well as the train ride itself.
Share your confirmed arrival station and train time with your transfer provider. If you plan several sightseeing stops, a private vehicle for the onward portion can help keep the day organised. Families should also confirm child-seat and luggage requirements when arranging their pickup.
Is the 30 minute Dubai to Abu Dhabi train running?
The approximately 30 minute journey announced by Etihad Rail relates to a separate, fully electrified high-speed railway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It is a future project, so visitors should not use that journey time to plan a current trip. Use the timetable shown for the service you are actually booking.
